Help/Support

Something not working as expected? Below are the most common issues and their fixes -- most of them come down to a missing phone permission, which you can grant right from here.

I can't see my partner's location on the map, what do I do?

This usually comes down to one of two things:

1. Your own location permission isn't fully granted -- check that with the buttons below.
2. Your partner hasn't turned on "Location sharing" on their own phone yet -- remind them to switch it on in the Location tab.

Once you've both granted permission and turned sharing on, you'll be able to see each other.

Does location sharing stop when I close the app or lock my phone?

For MySchatz to keep sharing your location even after you close the app, you need to choose "Allow all the time" on Android. This makes it work in the background too, not just while the app is open. Tap the button below and choose "Allow all the time" in the permission screen.

My voice doesn't come through in calls / my partner can't hear me, why?

This is usually because microphone permission hasn't been granted. MySchatz needs microphone access to send your voice to your partner during voice or video calls. Check or grant it with the button below.

In a video call, my picture doesn't reach my partner, why?

For video calls to work, MySchatz needs access to your camera. Check or grant it with the button below.

I'm not getting notifications when my partner does something

For MySchatz to send notifications about messages, calls, or reminders, it needs notification permission. Check or grant it with the button below. On some phones (especially Samsung and Xiaomi), "battery optimization" can also delay notifications -- if the problem continues, try setting MySchatz to "Unrestricted" under your phone's Settings > Battery.

How do I connect with my partner?

Go to Settings > Partner Connection. Send the invite code generated there to your partner, who enters it in their own app to connect with you. Once connected, every feature (location, messages, calls, etc.) starts working between the two of you.

I forgot my Special Security PIN, what do I do?

Right now the only way to reset your PIN is to set a new one from Settings > Special Security. This resets your access to special sections like the Gift Box and Schengelemengele.

Is my data safe, who can see it?

Your location, messages, and photos are only visible to you and your connected partner. No data is shared with third parties or used for advertising. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I change the app language?

Go to Settings > Language to switch between Turkish, German, and English at any time.

How do I delete my account and all my data?

You can permanently delete your account from Settings > Delete Account. This can't be undone -- your messages, location history, and all your data are permanently deleted.

How do I set up the sections on the Home page?

On Home, tap the "Add" button next to "Today's Summary" to open "Edit Home Screen".

Tap "Done" when finished; your layout is saved.

How do I reorder the shortcut icons on Home?

Long-press an icon in the shortcut row at the top of Home (Hug Excuse, Sulking, Come Get Me, etc.). The icons start to wiggle; hold and drag one to where you want it. Tap "Done" when finished.

How do I create my personal mascot?

1. At the top of Settings > Account, choose the default mascot (male / female / other) shown when you have no photo.
2. Tap "Create personal mascot" on the same screen to open the Mascot screen.
3. Pick a style: Realistic Photo, 3D Drawing or Full Animated Character (default: Full Animated).
4. Use "Take Photo" or "Choose from Library". Generation can take a few minutes.

Your mascot shows up in Hug Excuse, Sulking and Come Get Me; use the checkboxes to choose where, then tap Save. Tick "Use as profile photo (app-wide)" to also use it in the small profile circles around the app. "Reset to default" undoes it any time.

How do I change the two-person mascot on Home?

Open Settings > Mascot and scroll to "My Home Page Mascot". It shows the mascot currently in use. Pick a style (Realistic Photo, 3D Drawing or Full Animated Character; default: Full Animated), then take or choose a photo of the two of you together. The new mascot appears in the Home banner and the Calls tab. You need to be connected to your partner for this. "Reset to default" brings back the original.

How do I change my email or password?

In Settings > Account, tap "Change Email" or "Change Password".

If you forgot your password, use "Forgot password" on the login screen.

How do I react to a message with an emoji?

Long-press your partner's message to open the reaction row. Swipe the row sideways to see more emoji. You can leave up to 4 different reactions on one message; they're listed under the message. Tap one of your own reactions again to remove it.

An incoming call doesn't open the screen when my phone is locked, or only vibrates once

On Android 14 and later, opening the call screen over the lock screen needs the "Full-screen notifications" permission. The app asks for it on first launch; if you skipped it, open your phone's Settings > Apps > MySchatz > Notifications and turn on "Full-screen notifications". Also make sure battery saver isn't restricting MySchatz.

What can we do together as a couple?

Reach them from the shortcut row and sections on Home: Hug Excuse, Sulking, Come Get Me, Bring on the Way, Hunger Alarm, Let's Go to a Restaurant, Gift Box, Period Tracker, Games, Trip, Listening; plus the shared Shopping List, Tasks and Weekly Plan/Calendar. All of them need you to be connected to your partner.

Location sharing drains my battery – what can I do?

On the Location screen, right below the sharing switch, the "Sharing hours" section lets you share your location only during set hours (e.g. 06:00–14:00) and on the days you pick (e.g. Monday–Friday). Outside those hours sharing turns off automatically, GPS stops completely and your partner can't see your location; it turns back on by itself when the time comes. The setting repeats every week.

On top of that, location sharing always turns off automatically when your battery drops to 15%, and you get a notification. You can turn it back on right away from the Location screen; it won't turn off again until the battery goes above 15% and drops again.
